Etihas video magazine - 8th issue, August 2016
(See the list of previous issues)

In the time of monsoons, we are happy to present the eighth issue of Etihas.in, the online video magazine of history, arts and culture of India and South Asia. We hope our stories and interviews will entertain and inspire you, and arouse your appetite for more about our rich and diverse pasts.

In this August 2016 issue, we bring you the following short videos and segments:

1. Raziuddin Aquil: Political Justice and History
2. Raziuddin Aquil: Disseminating History in Today's India
3. Featured video: Veena Sahasrabuddhe - Tarana in Raga Mian ki Malhar
4. Monsoons in Indian history and Culture: a guide to online resources

1. Raziuddin Aquil: Political Justice and History
This is the third and last part of our series on the popular perceptions that have existed about Mughal rulers Akbar and Aurangzeb, and how the same are being used today to create social differences and conflicts.

2. Raziuddin Aquil: Disseminating History in Today's India
Dissemination of history in India today faces challenges at two levels: (1) the school/college curriculum and (2) the freedom that historians and academics must get to criticize the unscrupulous versions of history. Sadly, the current Indian ruling class is trying to sabotage both.

Featured video: Veena Sahasrabuddhe - Tarana in Raga Mian ki Malhar
Veena Sahasrabuddhe, the well-known classical vocalist with roots in the Gwalior gharana of Hindustani music, passed away recently (29 June 2016). In our featured videos (from outside etihas.in) we bring this short recital of Veena's tarana in Raga Mian ki Malhar. The original recording was released from Music Today.

4. Monsoons in Indian history and Culture: some online resources: Monsoons or the annual rainy season of South Asia brings celebration, creativity and even social and business opportunities that have brought people together since millennia (besides of course, the floods that play havoc in people's lives). Here is a list of write-ups, resources and links to historical material on Monsoon in India. >>
